A “chin tuck” is usually performed either along with a facelift or on its own. It is designed to improve the contours of the neck. For patients who require this in addition to the rest of their facelift, our surgeon usually recommends a tightening of the platysma which is the neck muscle. This treatment involving tightening the neck muscle is commonly referred to as a “chin tuck “. The loose, flaccid muscle - skin complex is tightened and supported by certain key stitches that tighten the platysma (neck muscle).
This approach also allows direct fat removal from the neck and the area below the chin, through a small incision underneath the chin.
This technique is a reliable method of producing a clean angle with a shorter recovery time and excellent long term results.
The chin tuck technique, whether performed on its own or combined with the facelift, can without doubt improve the contour of the neck dramatically.
Chin augmentation is usually recommended to patients with the presence of an insufficiently projecting small chin. In this procedure the chin can be corrected by placing a small rubber or plastic chin implant.
